Brian was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa at thirteen. He kept some usable vision for years, started losing it in earnest in 1997, and went completely blind in 2009 — the same year he was partnered with his first guide dog, Nash. Wesley took over in 2019 and is still on the job.

He started out in film and entertainment, moved into executive search on Wall Street, and took up stand-up as his sight was going. He has performed at Gotham Comedy Club, Carolines on Broadway, the Hollywood Improv, the Comedy Store, the Laugh Factory, the Comedy and Magic Club, and the DC, Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale Improvs, and was named Maxim magazine’s Comedian of the Month.

Away from the clubs he audits websites and mobile apps for accessibility, has consulted for Yahoo, Verizon Media Group, Bleacher Report and Peapod, and built the Mac training curriculum now used as standard by the New York State Commission for the Blind. He hosts and produces That Real Blind Tech Show, which has passed 200 episodes. He is currently building a series of accessible iOS apps and web games, on the theory that if nobody else is going to make them accessible, he may as well do it himself.

Brian founded Laugh For Sight in 2005 to raise money for retinal degenerative disease research, guide dog programmes and other blindness causes. What began as one night at Gotham Comedy Club has run for more than twenty years, with over 120 comedians donating their time — among them Jerry Seinfeld, Robert Klein, Sarah Silverman, Jim Gaffigan, Bill Burr, Gilbert Gottfried, Kevin Nealon, Russell Peters and Michelle Wolf.

The show is mainly a New York event, though it has also played Los Angeles and South Beach.
